noyauПри написании статей, мне всегда было немного обидно, что в тексте совершенно не отражается 90% всех усилий и потраченного времени на получение хорошего вакуума/сигнала/образца/крепления/давления и прочая. Если статья не посвящена "новой конструкции ифракрасного убоища" или "новый метод синтеза оранжевой гадости", то глава "эксперимент" - это, в среднем, указание на тип прибора и несколько характеристик, вляющих на результат.
Но иногда люди срываются... Или от старости или от тягости лишений, принесенных данным экспериментом, тогда статья начинает выглядеть странно. И вот недавно я откопала статью, где авторы рассказали все о своих муках, удачах и неудачах. Очень необычно. Очень неинформативно.
Сначала они рассказали, что решили улучшить свой приемник, добавив дополнительный усилитель:
"To improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the spectrometer we designed and built a replacement
preamplifer for our mercury cadmium telluride (MCT) photoconductive detector.<...>
Чем это кончилось (на мой взгляд минусы стали превешивать плюсы):
Unfortunately putting the preamplifier in a screened box made it more prone to temperature drift. This caused shifts in the signal between recording a spectrum and a reference, leading to drift in the position of the baseline in absorption spectra. When the absorption spectra were integrated the shift in the baseline added up to a significant error in the integrated band intensities."
А потом граждане рассказали, как они намучались со стеклянными кюветами, а потом решили перейти к нержавейке:
"We initially tried to use a glass coolable cell with KBr windows for the measurements but we had
trouble with leakage from the cell into the spectrometer. <...> Because of these problems it was decided to construct another cell made of stainless-steel. In order to overcome the need for the use of sealants, Indium wire seals for the windows were incorporated."
Громадная статья.... Но какая-то невообразимо странная. Полная странных подробностей и бедная результатами...
